Many Black women struggle emotionally, mentally, and physically after having a baby, but too often they feel pressure to handle everything without asking for help. In this powerful conversation, Alexia Doubouya and LaKeisha Entsuah of CocoLife discuss the realities of postpartum depression, maternal mental health, and why so many Black mothers suffer in silence. They explain how the loss of community support, pressure to be the “strong Black woman,” workplace demands, and problems within the healthcare system can leave new mothers feeling isolated and overwhelmed. The conversation also explores the importance of fathers, rebuilding the Black family and village, learning to ask for help, developing self-worth, and creating healthier support systems for Black mothers and their families.
